Done and done.

Okay.

I'm done. And, done! Here is the current status in our house.

1. I turned in everything I could at 12:00 midnight last night. Damn. I did not finish one of my assignments. I am feeling REALLY down on myself right now. Are there reasons why I didn't finish LAST NIGHT????? Yup. Do any of them change the fact that I shouldn't have been finished 4 assignments last night? Nope. It just sucks. I screwed up. Not sure what the ramifications are yet. We'll see.

2. The Princess is WAY better but not before scaring the pants off me. In the midst of my cram session yesterday, I checked her temp at she was at 101.2. So, I gave her a dose of ibuprofen. 1/2 hour later, I checked her again -- still hot (really hot). Took her temp 103.9. Yup. That's a nice thing to see on the thermometer. So, I called the doctor who hadn't returned Mr Wonderful's call of that morning. The receptionist was not real helpful but she did finally figure out what to do and handed me off to a nurse. The nurse was awesome. Told me to give her Tylenol while she went and talked to the doctor. So, dosed her with liquid Tylenol (not an easy task -- she hates medicine) and waited. They called in a prescription for me to Walgreen's. And told me to give her a cool bath. Fortunately, this was when Mr W got off the phone (poor guy -- he's been swampped too) and took over. Gave her the bath (taking her temp right along) and let me know when she was down to 100.2 again. Whew! Then he went and got her meds (and got himself a glucose tester -- more on that later). With two doses of antibiotics in her, she hasn't needed any fever meds. Her temp got up to 100.2 again this morning but was at 97.7 (normal for her) this morning. YAY! First time she's had a temp below 99 since Monday night.

A Job Well Done

For MONTHS I have been wanting to go out and fix my low-voltage light system in the backyard. Last year, I tripped out there and broke my toe (it still hurts several times a week). Since then, the system was working but several bulbs burned out and it has just been more and more of an annoyance. Yesterday, I went out to do a bunch of dogrelated chores. Clean the runs, put down pine shavings in the runs and doghouses, get rid of Rosie's stinky old bed that was waterlogged and wet, and fix the low voltage lights. What a treat! The dogs were so happy last night -- no barking! They were warm and snuggly in their pine filled doghouses. And, I knew that when I went out to feed them I could see what I was doing. What a relief! I came in wet, cold, and tired but filled with satisfaction. I changed into my new jammies, curled up in my favorite readingchair with a good book (Red Lily by Nora Roberts) under my new down throw, and I read for hours. I even made Mr Wonderful get the kids and himself dinner! Wheee!

Add in that I took a 1 mile walk yesterday and I slept like a baby sure in the knowledge that I'd done good work yesterday.

Today, I tackle the messy hellhole that I call a bedroom. Imag ine how well I'll sleep tonight! Yeeee-haw!

The Good Wife Strikes Back by Elizabeth Buchan

Just finished reading this book. It was interesting and I did find myself comingback to it again and again. However, it is a fairly whiney book. The author loves her husband but finds herself totally trapped by his world (politics). She gives up everythingshe finds important and finally, upon the death of her father, she strikes back by seekingher own space for awhile. There were some truly annoyingcharacters (the husband's sister and her son chief among them). The biggest problem I had with it was the complete lack of backbone the main character has -- it seems all her husband has to do is smile sweetly at her and bat his baby blues and she is willing to toss aside career and personal interests to do whatever he pleases. He and his staff are selfish beyond belief.

So, my recommendation is quite qualified. It's fluff, for sure.

His Dark Materials

His Dark Materials

Our friend, John, recommended that I read Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials series. [Click!].

Imag ine my surprise upon starting to read the first one and finding that it was familiar. I'd read part of it before. And, then as I got further into it, I found that I hadn't finished it.

So, now, I'm trying to figure it out. Who told me about these books and evidently lent me the first one that I started reading but didn't finish? I'm thinking it was Darling Sister but she's away from her desk right now and can't confirm that via IM. [update: she's back and confirms that she did recommend them to me! Phew!]

And, what made the difference this time? Was it that John told me the first one was slow and the others more interesting? Did something else interfere with the process so I didn't finish them? Was I just not in a place where I could read them.

I don't know but it's engrossing. I don't have any time to read right now and yet, it's pulling me in. I'm in the middle of book two and thoroughly enjoying it. But, darn these books that make us think.

Anyway, that's what I'm reading right now. Well, other than books about teaching! :) Which are thought-provoking all on their own.
