Who won?

The water company! Hurrah! We have water, ladies and gentlemen!

Oh, sure, it's cold water and the house is still cold but it's really nice to be able to flush the toilet without using a bucket! Sheesh! The gas company is due by 5pm today so we'll see if its a warm night at our house or if we're heading off to my inlaws to bathe. Deeeeelightful.

Day

Nice day for the most part. Wanted to knock some heads together in Homework Club. Sigh. They were AWFUL. Anyway, we survived. After we got home, I helped Mr Wonderful bring the guts of our mega-TV in the house and then I took a nap. I emerged about 40 minutes later feel SO much better. We made dinner and collapsed in front of the TV to watch video of The Princess in the Talent Show today. Very cute! She was doing great on key until she waved her flag around and then . . . gone. And, at the end, she did not want to give up the stage. She stood there smiling at all and waving at her friends. Hilarious. Ham!

We watched the end of Ice Age and then watched last night's American Idol. The Princess wept that Kevin Covais was voted off. Too sweet. And, she totally latched on to Mr Wonderful's contention that Bucky should have been the one to go. We found it ironic that Kevin's performance was his best yet in our opinion but he was voted off. Weird. Bucky has yet to do a performance I've liked and he's hanging in there. Oh well.

After The Little Darlings (tm) were safely tucked in bed, Mr Wonderful and I curled up and watched the season finale (double episode) of StarGate Atlantis. Very cool.

Now, I'm supposed to be getting some work done but damn I'm tired. Still got dishes to do, lay out clothes, ought to shower and start a load of laundry too. AGH!

My Morning Mocha Ritual (or, why Liza thinks)

Every morning, my alarm goes off at 6am. I stagger to the bathroom and take care of business there and then I stagger into the kitchen -- usually looking futily for my slippers on the way -- once in the kitchen I start my morning ritual.

I think I'll live

To counter my exhaustion last night, I went to bed at 9pm and slept like a rock until 4:30 or so when The Princess crawled in with us. Then I rolled over on one side and she promptly jammed one knee into my back. I woke up at 6 (forgot to turn off the alarm) and couldn't move. Staying in bed wasn't a good option so I decided to get up. I staggered around making my morning mochas and took my claritin-d and 3 advil and now that it's an hour and a half later, I feel human again. Thank goodness.

It's Crafty Chix today. Gotta pack up my stuff and go. Sister Stupendous went to IKEA on her lunch break to get me somethings to decoupage and I'm thrilled. I'm doing them for my classroom. Oooooh, I think I'll take my organizer here from my desk too. That would be good. It desperately needs updating.

Anyway, that's the plan. Should be a great day.

Letting exhaustion win

There really is nothing a good solid 3 hours to set you RIGHT up for your day, is there? Especially when your day consists of wrangling 4th graders and staff meetings. Oh God kill me now.

And, as I just discovered, there *is* a definition to being too tired. I was too tired to correctly make my mochas this morning. The very fluid that literally keeps me vertical on the morning I need it most . . . and I am pouring it all over the counter because I FORGOT to put the little cuppy thing unde the little spouty thing. AHHHHHH! So I have to risk 3rd degree burns while dismantling it in order to get more water in it. But, after my first sip, I know I'll live. Thank all the powers that be.

But will I teach effectively? I warned my kids that I might be reduced to gibbering idioticially and possibly falling asleep mid-sentence. They promised to be good if that happened. I believe them. The school is in trouble! :)

TV Watching

American Idol. The Princess is addicted to this show. The Boy Wonder declaimed during the show that he'd once dreamt about being on a show like that but he hadn't liked it. We watched the Live Broadcast all curled up on the couch in jammies wrapped up in a down blanket. We were sad when the people were voted off but we hadn't lost the ones that we liked the most. The Princess voted for and supported Lisa who was wonderful. I liked her and Paris and Kannik and that last girl who sang so well whose name I'm forgetting right now. On the boys, The Princess didn't have much of a favorite but Mr Wonderful (who was, of course, not curled up on the couch with us) and I are quite fond of Taylor. He is awesome. We also like Elliott and Chris. And, of course, we like Ace. As one of my fellow teachers said, "I was so relieved that he could SING!" I was surprised by the second guy who left. I thought he had a weak chin but a great voice. I wanted to see more from him. I thought that Kevin should have gone last night. He was the weakest performer in my opinion.

So, yes, I love me some AI. I also love Survivor and the Amazing Race. I love ER and West Wing and Lost and Alias. I love Martha. I love Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. TV -- it's good stuff.

And, then, after the kids went to bed, I watched the Olympics. And, in the middle of Emily Hughes performance, Mr W called so we could chat privately and spilled that Sarah Cohen got a silver. I was so ticked! And, then I slept through Irena Slutskaya and when I backed the TIVO up -- her performance was gone. Oh well, fact is, I didn't care that much. I am looking forward to tomorrow night's exhibition when I think the skaters really can shine! Oh, and for the record, the older guy (Dick Buttons) who does the commentating for the Olympics is truly annoying. He's just awful. Everytime he opens his mouth I want to disagree with him just on principal. And, when he's right, I'm mad at the skater for doing what he said she's doing. I don't remember hating him before but this year -- gack! What a jerk.

A Long Overdue Visit to the Dentist

Note: These are not my teeth!

Thank goodness for good genes! I don't know whether to thank my mother or my father but thank them I do. I haven't been to the dentist in 5 years buuuuuuut yesterday's visit was the smoothest dental visit I can ever remember having. No problems. Gums? Fine. Fillings? Fine. Cleaning? Took about 25 minutes. Poor Mr Wonderful, on the other hand, has to go back for a deep cleaning and has to worry about gum disease again (this happened before and he got religious about flossing for several years and then it slipped away). The one really funny thing too was that when the dentist - a really nice guy - was looking at the panoramic xray of my teeth, he said he hoped that I never did have trouble because the roots on my teeth are so long that it would be really hard to pull them out. I also liked that he was not looking for ways to lecture me. He told me that I should floss because it would make the cleanings shorter -- didn't try to tell me that even though I had no signs of gum problems that I should floss to keep them that way. I left there wondering why I'd been dreading it in the first place. And, I did dread it -- I couldn't eat yesterday I was so worried about it. Hilarious.

Oh, while waiting at the Dentist, I saw a few birds. Only ID'd two of them . . . a crow and a raven. I added the Raven to the 7 I'd seen at BCE that morning.
